1. Some Iridium devices like Iridium GO can not make or receive calls on their own; instead, they require iOS or Android smartphone to complete the call.
2. Iridium GO acts as an internet access point. It allows multiple smartphone users to connect to itself over wi-fi connection and place or receive satellite calls using an iOS or Android app.
3. An Iridium GO is a small portable device that offers a dial-up Internet option over an extremely slow 2.4kbps connection. Slow speed is due to its small flip-up antenna and 600-mile distance to the iridium satellite. Despite its small size and slow speed, Iridium GO offers its user to:
- send and receive messages from an app such as WhatsApp, Viber from anywhere on earth
- download ZGRIB weather forecast in the middle of the ocean
- track location of the device in real-time
- send and receive email using Iridium mail
4. New PC's do not have RS232 DB9 connections therefore Iridium uses USB and emulates RS232 COM port to establish dial-up connection.
5. Direct Internet is Iridium's optimized version of dial-up internet service. It is not meant for web surfing, but rather for a specific application.
